Abstract

This work proposes innovative printed scarf designs that incorporate crochet motifs as a source of influence and inspiration to modernize crochet as a traditional handicraft, thereby creating a competitive product. The photos of the original motifs have been enhanced using Adobe Photoshop, saved in PNG format with a transparent background, and then used for scarf designs. Four square scarves and eight rectangle-shaped scarves were made in predefined dimensions. The recommended scarf designs were sublimation printed on chiffon and satin textiles fabrics. Finally, experts in the clothing and textile domain investigated the designs and final printed scarves to evaluate the idea's originality, design quality, and final product. The results have been analyzed statistically according to Likert's five-point scale. According to the questionnaire, the proposed scarf designs combining handicrafts with digital crafts generated innovative designs and competitive products. Modern printed scarf designs were distinctive and innovative. Digital crochet motifs offer a three-dimensional look in most patterns, especially on satin fabrics which were the most accepted due to the lustrous surface appearance, enhancing the three-dimensional effect. The final scarf product is competitive and marketable, according to the questionnaire. Different people may have different opinions about designs, but overall, ratings of "good" to " excellent" show success, quality, and acceptability.
