Awareness and Adoption Level among Tharu Tribes towards Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITKs) for Its Cost Effectiveness

The widespread use of modern medications in animal husbandry has reduced the use of Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK), although they are still frequently employed first to treat various animal ailments. The goal of this study was to raise awareness and adoption of selected Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) among Tharu tribes in terms of lowering production costs while boosting overall livestock production. The study was conducted in the Tharuhat area of the West Champaran district to investigate the medicinal applications of plants by local residents. Participant observation, open-ended talks, and semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect information from Tharu Tribes' traditional healers and livestock owners. Plants used as ethnoveterinary medicines were collected and identified by farmers of the study area (i.e., Tharuhat area) who had well knowledge about the use of indigenous practices in different areas of livestock rearing i.e., Breeding, Feeding, and Health care and its awareness. For the sake of future generations, it is crucial to record ethnoveterinary information relating to traditional knowledge and to identify prospective species for conservation prioritization through sustainable management of animal health care. The current study helped to compile an inventory of ethnoveterinary medicinal plants, which may serve as a more useful informational database for subsequent scientific validation investigations for the benefit of animal health.
